The 2019 TASIS Summer Programs in Lugano, Switzerland, officially opened on Saturday, June 22. A total of 275 boarding students from three different divisions—Le Château des Enfants (CDE), which comprises ages 4½–10 with the option to board beginning at age six; the Middle School Program (MSP), ages 11–13; and the TASIS Summer Program (TSP), ages 14–18—arrived throughout the day, and they were joined by an additional 110 day students two days later.
The evening before Opening Day, directors, teachers, counselors, and their families gathered in Villa De Nobili for a delicious dinner and the always-popular Staff Talent Show. Guided by the Dedicated Performing Arts Teams (DPAT), summer staff members shared a variety of impressive talents—highlights can be viewed below.
Following a series of local hikes and activities on campus on Sunday, students began their academic classes on Monday morning. The primary academic offerings for session one (June 22–July 18) include English, French, Italian, EAL Academic Writing, Digital Photography, Architecture & Design, Fine Art Portfolio, Musical Theater, and Lean Startup Masterclass for TSP; English, French, Italian, EAL Academic Writing, Digital Photography, and Musical Theater for MSP; and EAL English, Advanced English, French, STEAM, or Performing Arts for CDE.
Afternoons are generally reserved for activity tracks—including Milan Academy Scuola Calcio, Olympia Milano Basketball Club, Crossfit, tennis, kayaking, paddleboarding, windsurfing, hiking, and swimming—while most evenings are spent enjoying structured activities with friends. Students will also have ample opportunities throughout the summer to explore Switzerland and beyond through a robust offering of day and overnight trips to exciting destinations such as Andermatt, Florence, Milan, Nice, Rome, Tuscany, the Italian Riviera, and Zermatt.
