Want just a day or weekend activity that is fun for the whole family?
Try one of the many outings listed below. Driving times are approximate; we have used Egham
as a starting point.
This is just a short list of the many places there are to discover.
If your family enjoyed an adventure that you think others would enjoy,
please let us know at Parents' Council Communications.
Two national organizations, English Heritage
and The National Trust
will enable you to explore some
of Britain's most beautiful palaces, houses and gardens. Several
properties are listed below, but a full list can be found on their
websites along with membership information. Select a property in your
area and travel no more than 30 minutes.
English Heritage
is the Government's statutory adviser on the historic environment and
exists to protect and promote England's spectacular historic
environment. They
are also responsible for looking after the historic environment as a
whole, including historic buildings, monuments and areas, and
archaeological remains.
The National Trust
is a charity and is run completely independent of Government. It protects and keeps open to the public
hundreds of historic houses and gardens, industrial monuments and
mills, forests, woods, farmland, downs, moorland, islands,
archaeological remains, castles, nature reserves, and villages.
